Twelve Extraordinary Women : A book review!

John Macarthur brings to life the stories of twelve of the women in the bible... Eve, Sarah, Rahab, Hannah, Mary, Anna, The Samaritan Woman, Martha & Mary, Mary Magdalene, Lydia. He brings them to life in a way that you will relate to... and you'll realise that the women in the bible are not so different from us... there are many lessons to be learned, challenges to be shared.

You will also see that women are not secondary to God's plan for salvation but right at the heart of it! What an amazing encouragement that is! You will see how God uses their lives, complete with failings just like ours, to shape his Kingdom and help His people. You will realise that God doesn't use spiritual giants, he uses everyday women like you and I to fulfill His purposes.

This book is a delight to read, it has just the right amount of readability while still providing depth and insight. You will certainly come away having learned new things and being prompted to put into practice what you've learned. This book would also be great as the basis for a bible study group, or to give to Christian women in your church! I highly recommend it!

Find it at your local Christian bookstore or online!

Perth Women's Convention

600 women from more than 100 churches gathered in the Swan Valley near Perth last month for the 8th Annual Perth Women's Convention. PWC is part of the Christian Conventions of WA - a non-denominational Christian grouping seeking to encourage the churches here in Perth by providing opportunities to gather and hear some great teaching from the Bible. This year Jenny Salt came across from Sydney to lead some studies on 1 Peter - thinking again about what it means to have a foot in 2 worlds and encouraging us to live godly lives in the face of persecution and hardship. Helene Berhane also talked of her time of imprisonment in Eritrea for her Christian faith.

Jenny's talks will be put on the CCOWA website soon so keep an eye on that if you'd like to download and hear them. They can be found at www.ccowa.org

This is an annual event that is a great encouragement to women from many different churches. It was great that many women from Presbyterian Churches here in Perth were able to get along and benefit from the teaching, food and fellowship!

Look out for next year's event if you are in Perth on August 4th, 2012 - it will be well worth coming along and exploring what God says about contentment!
